PRESIDENT NAMES FRANK G. WISNER AS AMBASSADOR TO INDIA
The President today announced his intention to nominate Frank G.
Wisner of the District of Columbia as Ambassador to India.
"I am pleased to announce Frank to this most important post," the
President said. "He brings an experienced background and skilled
diplomacy to this important assignment."
Mr. Wisner is presently the Under Secretary of Defense for
Policy. He has also had posts as Ambassador to the Philippines Under
Secretary of State for International Security Affairs, Ambassador to the
Republic of Egypt and Ambassador to the Republic of Zambia. In addition
he served tours in Morocco, Algeria, VietNam, Tunisia and Bangladesh.
Mr. Wisner was born on July 2, 1938 in New York. He graduated
from Princeton University in 1961 and speaks French, Arabic and
Vietnamese. Mr. Wisner is married to the former Christine de Ganay and
they have four children.
